- Geopolitical disruption: Middle East shipping risks and uncertainty around UK–EU border processes continue to impact lead times and reliability.
- Demand slowdowns: Construction and manufacturing volumes remain under pressure, reducing pallet and container throughput across distribution centres.
Why it matters: Confidence indices aren’t just sentiment—they influence investment decisions. With confidence at historic lows, operators are more likely to delay CapEx on new fleets, warehouse automation, or property expansion. This could create capacity crunches once demand rebounds.
Opportunities in uncertainty: Some businesses are using the downturn to renegotiate supplier contracts, review their distribution footprints, and invest in efficiency-driven technology such as WMS upgrades and route optimisation software.
